To upgrade your Eggdrop IRC bot, download the new source code, back up your important configuration and data files, and recompile the application.
Backup Important Files
- Create a backup copy of your
.conf(config file),.user(user file), and.chan(channel file) before starting.
- While the standard upgrade process should not overwrite these files, having a separate copy ensures you will not lose data.
Check for Configuration Changes
- Open and read the
NEWSfile included in the new source code package.
- Pay close attention to the configuration section to see if new commands, variables, or settings have been added.
- Update your existing configuration file to match any new requirements or recommended changes.
Compile and Install the New Version
- Download the latest source code archive or pull the update from the official repository.
- Extract or unpack the source files if using a tarball.
- Open your terminal, navigate to the Eggdrop source directory, and run the standard build commands sequentially:
bash
./configure make config make make installRestart the Bot
- Shut down your currently running instance of Eggdrop and start it back up using your updated configuration file.
